Their Unseen Protector

Are you worried about your child today?
It’s natural for us to want to spare our children suffering, pain, or even disappointment. That is why we plead with them to be careful. Yet “unsafe” situations are often the tools God will use to bring our children into a saving knowledge or more intimate relationship with Him. It's also what He uses to bring us moms into a stronger dependence upon Him.
I remember saying “be careful” as I saw my daughter off on a three-week trip to a remote country. Granted, she was in college, and leaving for only two weeks with a group of kids and two adult chaperones. Yet in some ways, I felt she was extremely vulnerable. I would’ve been an emotional wreck were it not for these comforting words that my daughter had memorized as a young child….words that reminded me that her Unseen Protector had her firmly in His grip:
“fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 40:31, ESV).
Except for a few bouts with homesickness, Dana returned from that trip unscathed and knowing God in a much deeper way. She had been given a chance to get up close and personal with her Unseen Protector.
When God chooses to allow your child into a situation you don't think is "safe" you can be assured that He knows what He's doing and He has His eye on the outcome, and the life-changing, eternal benefits that come from "unsafe" situations. He is either teaching you or your child how to pray more fervently, teaching you both something memorable about His presence, or teaching the two of you something about His ability to provide and protect.
Go ahead, trust your child’s Unseen Protector – and yours – with whatever happens today. Nothing touches your child’s life – or yours – without first passing through His loving hands.
God, help me not to worry about a thing today. Thank You that my child is firmly in the grip of Your hands.
